DAVENPORT, FL — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Davenport early Sunday morning that left two people dead and another seriously injured.
According to the PCSO, the crash occurred at approximately 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, on U.S. Highway 27 near California Boulevard.
Preliminary information indicates a Genesis G70 driven by a 21-year-old Summerfield man was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 27 approaching a solid red traffic signal when it struck a Ford Explorer that was stopped at the light.
Authorities said the driver of the Genesis suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Investigators noted he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
A passenger in the Genesis, a 30-year-old Davenport woman, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. She later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 31-year-old Davenport man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Deputies said he is expected to recover.
The investigation remains ongoing. According to the Sheriff’s Office, no criminal charges are anticipated at this time.
