FOUR CORNERS, FL — A 31-year-old Haines City man was fatally struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning on US-27 in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 6:39 a.m. on US-27, south of Cagan Crossings Boulevard. According to FHP, a 69-year-old Clermont man was driving a 2015 Kia Forte northbound in the inside lane when a pedestrian entered the roadway.
A witness told investigators the pedestrian had been walking in the left-turn lane before entering the northbound inside lane and lying down in the path of the Kia. The vehicle’s undercarriage then struck the pedestrian.
The 31-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was not injured and remained at the scene following the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
