LORIDA, FL — Monday, June 15 – Two people have died and a search remains underway for a third victim after an airboat capsized near the Kissimmee River this afternoon.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), seven individuals were traveling to the Kissimmee River on an airboat when the vessel approached the river from the Istokpoga Canal. Preliminary information indicates the airboat entered a deeper section of water while making a turn and began taking on water before capsizing. All seven occupants were thrown into the water.



Authorities said four of the occupants were able to safely make it back to shore. Search efforts for the remaining three individuals began immediately, involving the FWC, Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, and Highlands County Fire Rescue.

As of Monday evening, two of the missing occupants had been recovered deceased. The search for the third victim remains ongoing.
The FWC is leading the investigation into the incident. Officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available, and a full report will be completed once the investigation concludes.
The agency expressed its condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by the tragedy. Nothing further at this time.
