BAY LAKE, FL — A 53-year-old Davenport man crashed into the back of a Florida Highway Patrol vehicle Tuesday night, seriously injuring a state trooper who was assisting with a lane closure in an active construction zone in Orange County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on October 27, 2026, at approximately 9:12 p.m. along southbound State Road 429 near mile marker 6 in Bay Lake.
FHP said the Davenport man was driving a 2026 Toyota Tundra in the outside lane when he approached an active construction zone. A marked FHP patrol car was stationary in the same lane with its emergency lights activated as part of a lane closure operation.

The driver failed to move over and collided with the rear of the patrol vehicle.
The trooper sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to HCA Osceola Regional Medical Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
The Davenport man was transported to Celebration Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
FHP reported that Florida recorded 215 crashes involving Move Over law violations in 2025, with more than 17,300 citations issued statewide.
Under Florida law, motorists approaching stopped emergency or service vehicles must move over one lane when possible or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit if changing lanes is unsafe.
The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending. Nothing further at this time.
