SEBRING, FL – April 28, 2026 — A second suspect in last week’s deadly shooting in the Placid Lakes neighborhood has now turned himself in, according to the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.
Leon Jarrell Simms, 38, of Sebring, surrendered at the Highlands County Jail on April 27. He is now facing charges including second-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, firing a deadly missile into a vehicle, and improper exhibition of a firearm. Authorities say Simms refused to speak with detectives.
The charges stem from the April 22 shooting on Lake Groves Road NE that left 30-year-old Marvin Lekeith Sholtz Jr. dead.
According to HCSO, Sholtz was driving a gray Ford Fusion westbound just before 8:30 p.m. when a truck with two people pulled alongside him. Multiple shots were fired from the truck before it sped off.
After being shot, Sholtz’s vehicle left the roadway, cutting through two front yards. The vehicle struck a parked car with enough force to spin it out of a driveway before continuing into a nearby home, causing significant damage near the front entrance. No one inside the home was injured.

Detectives say the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute.
Investigators previously arrested 31-year-old Andrew Anthony Berry of Lake Placid, who was identified as the driver of the truck. Berry was taken into custody on April 23 and is facing similar charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
