AVON PARK, FL — A large fire destroyed the former AP Beachfront Night Club building on West Garrett Road Tuesday evening, leaving the structure a total loss and displacing one occupant.
Highlands County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the fire at approximately 8:02 p.m. on June 10 and arrived to find heavy fire conditions at the roughly 10,000-square-foot building. Firefighters from Highlands County Fire Rescue, Avon Park Fire Department, and Sebring Fire Department responded to the scene and worked together to contain and extinguish the blaze.

Approximately 15 emergency apparatus and between 40 and 50 responders were involved in the operation. Due to the size of the structure and the extent of the fire, crews remained on scene into the early morning hours conducting suppression and overhaul operations.
Duke Energy responded to disconnect electrical service to the building. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

One occupant living in a residential portion of the structure was displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist with emergency housing and support services.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been requested to assist in determining the origin and cause of the blaze.
