KISSIMMEE, FL — Kissimmee Gateway Airport has received preliminary approval from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations for a User Fee Facility designation, a major milestone that will allow the airport to move toward offering on-site international arrivals and departures.
The designation is contingent upon the construction of a CBP-compliant inspection facility and the completion of a Memorandum of Understanding with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Airport officials expect construction to begin in 2027, with the facility anticipated to become operational about two years later.
The airport is located minutes from Central Florida’s major tourist attractions. Officials say the designation will help accommodate growing international aviation demand while serving as a complementary facility to Orlando International Airport by handling overflow international passengers when needed.

The project is expected to strengthen the regional economy by attracting additional international air service, expanding tourism, encouraging private investment, and creating new jobs. The airport also plans to pursue designation as a Foreign Trade Zone in the future, further expanding opportunities for international business and trade.
City officials called the approval the result of years of planning and collaboration, saying the project positions Kissimmee Gateway Airport for long-term growth while enhancing Central Florida’s role as an international aviation and tourism hub.
