On June 3, 1910, the United Daughters of the Confederacy erected a Confederate monument in the center of Munn Park in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida. The statue, depicting a Confederate soldier, was intended to honor those who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War and stood as a prominent landmark in the community for more than 100 years.

As perspectives on Confederate symbols evolved, the monument became increasingly controversial. Many residents viewed it as a painful reminder of racial oppression and inequality.
In response to growing public calls for reevaluation, the city of Lakeland decided to remove the statue on March 22, 2019.

The monument was relocated to Veterans Park, where it now serves an educational purpose within a broader context of military history. Nothing further at this time.
