Bartow Motorcyclist Killed in SR-60 Crash; Driver Charged with DUI Manslaughter

PLANT CITY, FL – A 44-year-old Bartow man was killed Friday evening after a crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle on State Road 60 in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:45p on June 12 near Clarence Gordon Jr. Road. Troopers said the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a GMC Sierra exited a private driveway and entered the motorcycle’s path. The truck, driven by a 59-year-old Mulberry man, collided with the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the investigation, Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested the driver of the GMC Sierra, identified as Santiago Ruiz Rangel, on a charge of DUI Manslaughter.

According to FHP, Rangel was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail. Troopers reported his blood alcohol concentration was 0.170, more than twice Florida’s legal limit of 0.08. The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
