DAVENPORT, FL — Students are facing serious consequences after a water gun fight in the student parking lot at Davenport High School prompted a law enforcement response Thursday morning.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Davenport High School is no longer under heightened security, and the situation was resolved as of 11:30 a.m.
Polk County Public Schools stated that both Davenport High School and Davenport School of the Arts were placed on heightened security while law enforcement investigated. Authorities later determined that students in the parking lot were carrying water guns, and no real threat existed to either campus.
In a message sent to families, the district confirmed all students and staff are safe and emphasized that the students involved will face serious consequences for the disruption to campus safety.
School officials also urged parents and guardians not to allow students to bring water guns to school, citing the potential for significant disruption and disciplinary action. Nothing further at this time.
