Polk County Railroad Crossing Striping Project Underway Across 10 Locations

BARTOW, FL — Crews have begun removing and replacing safety striping at 10 railroad crossing locations across Polk County as part of a countywide roadway maintenance project that started Monday night, May 11, 2026.

According to officials, construction activities are taking place nightly between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. The crossings are being completed one at a time, with each location expected to take approximately five to six days to finish.

Motorists should expect lane closures, traffic shifts, and possible delays in the work zones throughout the duration of the project. Drivers are urged to use caution, be prepared to merge, and allow extra travel time when approaching active construction areas.

Officials said the work schedule is tentative and may change depending on weather conditions and construction progress.
