FORT MEADE, FL — In light of a recent unanimous 5-0 vote by the City Commission regarding a data center project, the City of Fort Meade issued a public safety statement addressing threats made against city officials and emphasizing that such actions will be taken seriously and referred to law enforcement.
According to the statement, threats against elected officials are classified as a misdemeanor under Section 836.12, Florida Statutes. Additionally, under Section 838.021, it is a felony to harm or threaten a public servant in the performance of official duties.
City officials stated that all threats will be referred to appropriate law enforcement agencies for further action.

In a separate message, City Manager Troy Bell addressed the community, stating that the city does not tolerate direct, implied, or veiled threats. He said actions or comments that cause residents to fear for their safety or property will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Bell also stated that decisions made by the City Commission were completed after extensive due diligence and with consideration for the community’s health and safety.
City officials said any behavior placing residents in fear will not be tolerated and will result in appropriate legal consequences. Nothing further at this time.
