SEBRING, FL — A Cessna 172 carrying three people made an emergency landing on U.S. 98 in Sebring Saturday morning after developing engine trouble, according to Highlands County officials.
The aircraft was traveling from Fort Myers to Sebring when the pilot realized the plane would not be able to reach the airport. The pilot made an emergency landing on U.S. 98 near Haywood Taylor Boulevard before taxiing the aircraft off the roadway and into the grass.
According to a flight tracking app, the aircraft departed Fort Myers at approximately 9:25 a.m. and had been in the air for about 39 minutes before making the emergency landing at approximately 10:04 a.m. No injuries were reported among the three people on board.
During the emergency landing, the pilot successfully navigated the aircraft over a set of railroad crossing arms and beneath nearby power lines before safely touching down on the roadway.
The circumstances surrounding the engine trouble were not immediately available. Nothing further at this time.
