Cat Dies in Eagle Lake Residential Fire

EAGLE LAKE, FL — On Monday, March 23, 2026, Polk County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 490 South Bingham Street in Eagle Lake, where they found a single-family home and two vehicles engulfed in flames.

The department was dispatched at 12:56 p.m.. Firefighters arrived on scene minutes later and immediately began battling the blaze. The fire was brought under control by 12:56 p.m.

The house sustained damage from the flames. According to the Polk County Fire Rescue, a cat was found deceased inside the residence. No injuries were reported to residents or firefighting personnel.

The American Red Cross was notified to assist those affected. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Nothing further at this time.
