DAVENPORT, FL — A 5-year-old Brevard County boy died Monday afternoon after he was found unresponsive at the bottom of a swimming pool at an Airbnb in Davenport, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just after 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, to a vacation rental off Takeaway Way after receiving a report of a child found at the bottom of the pool.
According to OCSO, when deputies arrived they immediately began life-saving measures, performing CPR on the unconscious child until fire rescue personnel arrived. The boy was transported to AdventHealth Celebration, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said homicide detectives responded to the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident, which is standard procedure in child death cases.
Investigators said the 5-year-old, who was from Brevard County, was staying at the Airbnb with extended family and had been in the pool with other children before the drowning occurred. The drowning remains under investigation. Additional details have not yet been released.
