KISSIMMEE, FL — A Kissimmee mother was arrested after allegedly leaving her four children home alone while traveling to Las Vegas for work. Her absence came to light after her 9-year-old son suffered a head injury, prompting one of his siblings to call 911 for help. According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the children, ages 14, 12, 11, and 9, were left without overnight adult supervision for several days.
Well, as the saying goes, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but that wasn’t the case for this Kissimmee mother. On October 21, 2026, shortly after 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to a residence at 3028 Parkway Boulevard after receiving a 911 call from a juvenile reporting that her 9-year-old brother had been injured when a dumbbell fell on his head.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that no adults were present at the residence. Fire Rescue personnel transported the injured child to Celebration Hospital for treatment.
Deputies contacted the children’s mother, identified as 50-year-old Irene Miller of Kissimmee, by telephone. According to investigators, Miller told deputies she was working in Las Vegas and planned to return on October 23.
Investigators determined that Miller had departed for Las Vegas on October 18, leaving her four children at home. She told deputies that a babysitter from Tampa visited the residence in the mornings to prepare the children for school and checked on them after school. However, Miller acknowledged that she did not require the babysitter to remain overnight.
The 9-year-old was treated and released from the hospital before returning home. Deputies subsequently contacted the children’s father, who responded and took all four children to his residence.
Detectives arranged to meet Miller upon her return flight from Las Vegas on Friday, October 23.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Miller was arrested that morning and charged with four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. She was booked into the Orange County Jail.
“The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect. These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children,” Sheriff Chris Blackmon said.
