On July 3, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to a water-rescue call at Bayside Park on the Intracoastal Waterway, Sand Key. A 51-year-old man from New York was found floating and unresponsive in the water by family members.
Family members brought him to shore, where bystanders initiated life-saving measures. Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel continued these efforts upon arrival. The man was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
