WINTER HAVEN, FL — A Winter Haven man cut his hand on a lawn mower blade Tuesday morning after reaching into the wheel area, causing a significant injury that resulted in him being airlifted to Lakeland Regional Health as a trauma alert, according to the Winter Haven Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. at a home in the 2000 block of Lucerne Park Road. The 63 year-old man was cutting grass for the homeowner when the incident occurred. Police said the homeowner looked outside and saw the man rolling around in the grass. Because the homeowner has mobility issues and was unable to reach him, 911 was called.
Winter Haven Police and Fire responded and found the man suffering from serious injuries to his hand. Officers immediately used an agency-issued first aid kit to apply bandages and help control the bleeding.
The man told authorities that the mower he was using became stuck near the wheel area. When he placed his hand into the stuck area, his hand came too close to the mower blade, causing the injuries.
The man was transported by helicopter to Lakeland Regional Health, where he continues to receive treatment. Police said he is listed in stable condition. The type of lawn mower involved was not released, and no additional information about the incident was immediately available. Nothing further at this time .
