Highlands Grove Elementary Student Wins Statewide America250FL Art Contest

A Polk County Public Schools student has been recognized as one of the statewide winners in Florida’s America250FL art and essay contest, Governor Ron DeSantis announced during a reception at the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee.

Noah Sisson, a fourth-grade student at Highlands Grove Elementary, earned recognition for his artwork titled “Palm Tree Promised Land.” Sisson was honored alongside other student winners from across Florida during the event.

The America250FL contest invited students statewide to submit original artwork and essays based on the theme, “Celebrating Florida’s Contributions to America.” The initiative is part of Florida’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

According to state officials, six elementary students in grades K-5 and eight middle and high school students in grades 6-12 received college scholarships through the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.

Governor Ron DeSantis praised the students for their creativity and appreciation of Florida’s history and heritage. Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas and Secretary of State Cord Byrd also commended participants for their work honoring the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial celebration.

America250FL is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida.
