LAKELAND, FL – Yesterday evening, our news team were at the scene where detectives were investigating the discovery of bones in a wooded area near Fish Hatchery Road and Morgan Combee Road in Lakeland. At the time, investigators were working to determine whether the bones were authentic and whether they were human or animal remains.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has now confirmed that the bones are human and is conducting a death investigation.
Deputies were dispatched to the area at approximately 7:47 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, after the remains were discovered near the intersection of Fish Hatchery Road and Morgan Combee Road. According to reports, a group of children playing in a pasture discovered the bones and notified adults, who then contacted authorities.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said additional information is expected to be released later today as detectives continue their investigation.
