WINTER HAVEN, FL — The heroes who helped save Polk County Sheriff’s Office K9 Ace after he was shot in the line of duty were presented with Sheriff’s Commendations on Monday by Sheriff Grady Judd.

Staff members at Parkway Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Lakeland were recognized for their actions on Aug. 6, 2026, after K9 Ace was shot in the leg.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, employees at the clinic provided emergency treatment and stabilized Ace before coordinating with Tampa General Hospital Aeromed to transport him to the Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch in Manatee County for advanced critical care.
