The Florida Department of Transportation will begin a pavement resurfacing project on U.S. 17, starting tonight. The project covers 4.8 miles, from north of Transport Road in Bartow to Avenue G SW in Winter Haven.
It passes through the cities of Bartow, Eagle Lake, and Winter Haven in Polk County.Work includes milling and resurfacing the roadway, minor sidewalk repairs to comply with current ADA standards, and installation of rumble strips along the roadway edge lines through Eagle Lake.
The project cost is $7.5 million. The current phase is scheduled to start tonight (Sunday, January 11) and is expected to be completed in late 2026.To minimize daytime disruptions, lane closures will be restricted to nighttime hours, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Pedestrians should anticipate minor detours during sidewalk repair activities. Motorists are advised to use caution in the work zone and check Florida 511 for real-time updates. Nothing further at this time.
