WINTER HAVEN, FL — The Cat in the Hat and other beloved Dr. Seuss characters are coming to Polk State College in Winter Haven this November as the college prepares to present Seussical the Musical at its Winter Haven Fine Arts Theatre.
According to a press release from Polk State College, the Theatre Department will present the musical from November 13 through 15 and November 19 through 22, bringing the imaginative world of Dr. Seuss to life through music, dancing, and performances by Polk State students.
The production features familiar characters, including Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and Jojo, a child with a big imagination. The story follows Horton and Gertrude as they work to bring peace to the Jungle of Nool.
“Our faculty and students are incredibly excited to bring the wonder of Dr. Seuss to our stage here on campus,” said Nancy Lozell, Program Manager for The Arts at Polk State. “Everyone has worked extremely hard and we can’t wait to bring this classic to life for our community.”
The musical, written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, incorporates elements from popular Dr. Seuss stories, including Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!, and Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?
The production is directed by Polk State Professor of Theatre Mark Hartfield, with musical direction by Professor Virginia Zechiel and choreography by local performer Shannon Schreier.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with Sunday performances beginning at 2:30 p.m.
