Sushi Owner Attacked, Fatally Stabs Assailant with Screwdriver

St.Pete Police Press Release:

Shortly before 6 p.m., Friday, May 23rd, Officers responded to a stabbing at
364 1 Avenue North, Ahi Tuna.

The wounded man, Dustin Hedenberg, (DOB 3/31/84 ) was transported to Bayfront
Hospital where he died. His next of kin has been notified.

Through their investigation, detectives learned that Hedenberg had been
behaving erratically and punched a person at the Scientology Center at 336
1st Avenue North moments before the stabbing.

Hedenberg then made his way to Ahi Sushi where he engaged in a heated confrontation with business owner Fayun Zhang (DOB 11/7/73). Hedenberg struck Zhang, knocked him down and began punching him.

At one point Zhang grabbed a screwdriver and stabbed Hedenberg. Hedenberg was
transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 Zhang has not been charged at this time. Detectives will confer with the
State Attorney’s Office as they continue to investigate to determine if charges are warranted.

– Initial Report Friday, May 24 –

St. Petersburg, FL – A deadly stabbing occurred tonight outside Ahi Sushi at 364 1st Avenue North. St. Petersburg Police were called to the scene after an altercation led to the fatal incident.

According to authorities, a man was stabbed during the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Police are currently questioning two men in connection with the stabbing. Details surrounding the altercation and the events leading up to it remain under investigation.

First Avenue North is closed between 3rd and 4th Streets as officers process the scene. Anyone with information is urged to contact the St. Petersburg Police Department.
