AUBURNDALE, FL — Australian emu found itself wandering along the Polk Parkway Saturday morning, prompting Florida Highway Patrol troopers to step in and safely corral the large flightless bird.
According to FHP, troopers responded around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, to reports of an emu walking along SR-570, also known as the Polk Parkway, near mile marker 16.
When troopers arrived, they were able to corral the bird into the rear of a Road Ranger vehicle, where it remained until its owners arrived and recovered it. No injuries were reported during the unusual encounter.
FHP ended its report with a reference to Liberty Mutual’s emu advertising mascot, writing, “No insurance policies were sold by LiMu.”
