LAKELAND, FL — SPCA Florida has received a $4,000 grant from Greater Good Charities, in partnership with Hartz, to help support its Adoption Center and expand opportunities for shelter dogs to connect with potential adopters.
The grant recognizes SPCA Florida’s participation in the Hartz Day Out Initiative, a program created by Hartz and Greater Good Charities to encourage more community members to take shelter dogs on “doggie dates.” Throughout June, SPCA Florida waived all doggie date fees, making the program more accessible and increasing participation.
The Doggie Date Program gives shelter dogs a break from kennel life by allowing them to spend a day with volunteers or potential adopters. Outings can include walks, car rides, relaxing at home, or other activities that help dogs reduce stress, build confidence, and improve social skills while giving participants the chance to get to know the animals outside the shelter.
SPCA Florida said the grant will help continue its mission of finding loving homes for homeless dogs and cats through adoptions, doggie and kitty dates, and overnight foster opportunities.
Founded in 1979, SPCA Florida serves the community by providing adoption services, veterinary care through its Animal Medical Center, and assistance programs that help families keep their pets healthy and cared for. The organization expects to help approximately 20,000 dogs and cats through its medical center and provide direct care for 4,000 shelter animals this year.
Greater Good Charities is a global nonprofit that supports people, animals, and the environment through grants, supplies, and disaster response efforts, while Hartz focuses on products and initiatives that promote the health and well-being of pets.
