LAKE PLACID, FL — Highlands County and Town of Lake Placid officials recently toured Amazon’s local delivery facility in Lake Placid to gain a closer look at the company’s operations, workforce programs and community partnerships in the region.
The tour included Highlands County commissioners, county administration staff, Public Information and Economic Development personnel, as well as Town of Lake Placid elected officials and administrative representatives.
The approximately 75,000-square-foot facility serves as part of Amazon’s same-day delivery network and supports hundreds of jobs throughout the area. During the visit, officials learned about the facility’s logistics operations, workforce development opportunities and Amazon’s ongoing investment in Highlands County.
Amazon also highlighted its commitment to community involvement and emergency preparedness. As part of the event, the company presented a $10,000 donation to the United Way of Central Florida to support disaster preparedness initiatives benefiting Highlands County residents.

Officials received information about Amazon’s Career Choice program, which provides eligible hourly employees with prepaid tuition assistance for bachelor’s degrees, professional certificates, GED programs and English as a Second Language courses through approved educational partners.
County leaders said programs such as Career Choice help strengthen the local workforce while providing employees with opportunities for career advancement.
The tour concluded with local officials thanking Amazon staff for hosting the visit and providing insight into the facility’s operations, economic impact and role within the community.
