Lakeland Server Allegedly Made $893 in Fraudulent Purchases Using Customer’s Card Information

LAKELAND, FL — A Lakeland woman identified as Angela Nicole Borrero (DOB: 04/22/1977) was arrested after investigators said she used a restaurant customer’s debit card information to make nearly $900 in unauthorized purchases, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began on April 16, 2026, while Borrero was working as a server at Champs Grill, located at 6645 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland.

According to the arrest affidavit, a customer handed Borrero a debit/credit card to pay for a meal. Investigators said Borrero took the card to another area of the restaurant to process the transaction. Hours later, the victim reportedly began receiving alerts for unauthorized purchases, including six $100 transactions at a spa in Winter Haven, a $93.88 purchase at Chili’s in Lakeland, and a $200 purchase at Florida Cosmetic Shop in Lakeland.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Borrero intentionally copied the victim’s card information and used it to fraudulently make purchases totaling $893.88. Borrero was arrested on May 19 by the Lakeland Police Department and remains in custody.

• Possession of Methamphetamine

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

• Possession of Prescription Drugs Without a Prescription

• Multiple Violations of Probation Charges
