HAINES CITY, FL – The Polk County Board of County Commissioners has approved a pilot project to establish the Northeast Landfill Customer Convenience Center, with operations scheduled to begin June 1. The board also adopted a resolution setting disposal rates during its April 21 meeting.
The temporary drop-off facility will be located at 4001 Bannon Island Road in Haines City and will provide residents in northeast Polk County with a location to dispose of household waste, yard debris, bulk items, residential construction debris, tires, and scrap metal. No landfilling will occur at the site.
The project is intended to reduce illegal dumping in areas including Poinciana and Haines City. Officials stated the site is not yet ready for use and residents should not attempt to access it before the June 1 opening date.

Disposal fees will be based on vehicle type:
• Cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks: $10
• Vehicles with utility or enclosed trailers less than 6 feet: $18
• Vehicles with utility or enclosed trailers 6 to 16 feet: $27
• Tires: $5 each
Proof of Polk County residency will be required. The facility will not accept cash payments and will only accept Tap to Pay, Apple Pay, debit, and credit cards. Commercial use, including automated dump trailers, will not be permitted.
Planned hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
