Driver Pulled From Retention Pond After Medical Emergency

Polk City, FL — Monday, April 6, 2026 – A driver suffered a medical emergency Monday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 33 North and Mt. Olive Road in Polk City.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. Deputies located a 2000 white Toyota Camry partially submerged in a retention pond.

Polk County Fire Rescue personnel removed the driver from the vehicle after he was found unresponsive behind the wheel and performed life-saving measures before transporting him to the hospital. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he remains hospitalized in critical condition.

No other vehicles were involved. Nothing further at this time.
