Electric Motorcycle Rear-Ended on SR-39 in Plant City, Rider Fatally Injured

PLANT CITY, FL – An electric motorcycle was struck from behind by a vehicle Wednesday night on State Road 39, causing the rider to be ejected into oncoming traffic and struck by a second vehicle. As a result, a 53-year-old Plant City man suffered fatal injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 9:25 p.m. on October 7, south of Varn Road. According to troopers, the Plant City man was traveling northbound on SR-39 aboard a Zero SR electric motorcycle when he slowed down. A Honda Civic driven by a 20-year-old Wesley Chapel woman was traveling in the same direction behind the motorcycle and failed to slow down, striking it from behind.

The impact ejected the motorcyclist into the southbound lane, where he was subsequently struck by a Ford Fusion driven by a 27-year-old Texas man. The 53-year-old Plant City man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the victim’s identity or provided additional information regarding potential charges. Nothing further at this time.
