Florida Poly Athletics Program to Debut This Fall : Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Baseball, Softball

Florida Polytechnic University has announced the launch of Florida Poly Athletics, a new collegiate athletics program set to debut in fall 2026.

The program will field teams in eight sports: men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross-country, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball.

Hiring will begin with coaches for softball and cross-country to establish the program’s foundation.

The university expects the addition of athletics to attract up to 150 student-athletes to campus, including many who may not have previously considered Florida Poly due to the absence of intercollegiate sports.

Florida Poly Athletics is in discussions with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Sun Conference, with plans to join both upon meeting final qualifications.

The first competitions are scheduled for August 20 and August 29, 2026, with the women’s and men’s soccer teams playing against New College of Florida in Sarasota.

Academic excellence remains the university’s top priority, with emphasis on recruiting student-athletes who excel in STEM fields and their sports.

The initiative follows student input and interest from prospective students seeking a more comprehensive campus experience combining STEM education and athletics.

The program aims to increase student engagement, campus spirit, and community connections in the Lakeland, Auburndale, and broader Polk County area.
