
Victim’s Boyfriend Assaults Her, Sets Household Items on Fire in Deputy-Involved Shooting
Riverview, FL – According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a domestic dispute turned into a deputy involved shooting early Sunday morning in the 10500 block of Lake Montauk Drive. The incident began just before 4 a.m. when the victim’s ex-husband called 911, reporting that his adult son had witnessed the victim’s boyfriend, 50 year old Manuel Alvarez, assault her and set fire to household items.

Deputies arrived to find the victim with a facial bruise. As they investigated, Alvarez, who had been living in the home for three months, was heard upstairs threatening to shoot them. Deputy Sean Swinford, 35, confronted Alvarez and fired two shots, striking him in the upper torso. Alvarez, who was armed, received first aid on site but remains in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital following surgery.
Sheriff Chad Chronister noted Alvarez had no prior criminal record but was Baker Acted in 2022. Deputy Swinford has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. Nothing further at this time.
