TAMPA, FL. (July 30, 2025) – – A Tampa Police officer is recovering after being shot this morning outside of the District Two office.
On July 30, 2025, just after 8:15 a.m., a Tampa Police Sergeant came across the radio advising that an officer was shot at the Tampa Police Department District Two office located at 9330 N 30th St.
Master Police Officer Jordan Laupert was found with a gunshot wound to his leg. A tourniquet was applied by fellow officers and Tampa Fire Rescue, who transported him to a local hospital.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect, a 21-year-old black male, arrived at the District Two Office just before 8:15 a.m. Shortly after he left and began walking on N 30th St., where he got the attention of MPO Laupert.
Through the fence, MPO Laupert began talking to the suspect and was engaged in what appeared to be a cordial conversation. As Officer Laupert began walking away, the suspect shot him.
The suspect immediately fled the scene and was found near the Busch Gardens property with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“As a community, we are all incredibly fortunate that MPO Laupert, a guardian of our city, was not taken from us today after being shot,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Had it not been for the training, quick action, and life-saving efforts of his fellow officers and the men and women of Tampa Fire Rescue, this could have resulted in a very different outcome.”
Forty-year-old Officer Jordan Laupert was hired by the Tampa Police Department on May 8, 2015. He is currently assigned as a School Resource Officer at Hillsborough High School, but as standard, with SROs during the summer, he was temporarily assigned to uniform street patrol.
At the time of the incident, it is believed that the suspect was dealing with a mental health crisis. Formal identification and next of kin notification are still pending.

This remains an active investigation as detectives work to determine the motive of the suspect.
The incident is not being investigated as an officer-involved shooting or an in-custody death.
Bodyworn camera footage will be shared when available.
We ask the community to join us in keeping Officer Laupert and his family in your thoughts as he continues to recover.
