LAKELAND, FL — A radiography suite inside Polk State College’s new Haines City-Davenport Campus will be named after Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital in recognition of a $1 million gift to the college over five years.
The Orlando Health Radiography Suite will be located inside Polk State’s new 75,000-square-foot facility near Interstate 4 and U.S. Highway 27. The campus sits on 7.8 acres and is scheduled to open in January.
The new facility will consolidate several of Polk State’s Health Sciences programs currently spread across multiple locations. It will also house what the college describes as Central Florida’s first public interdisciplinary simulation hospital.
Students will receive hands-on training in cardiovascular technology, diagnostic medical sonography, occupational and physical therapy, radiography, and respiratory care.
“As Polk County grows, preparing skilled healthcare professionals is essential,” Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas said. “We are grateful for Orlando Health’s partnership, gift, and trust in Polk State College to train the highly skilled workforce our community needs.”
Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital opened in July and employs more than 1,500 people. The gift expands an existing partnership between the hospital and Polk State aimed at strengthening healthcare education and preparing more students for careers serving Polk County’s growing population.
