Man Found Dead Inside Submerged Vehicle in Lakeland Retention Pond

LAKELAND, FL – Lakeland Police have identified the driver found deceased inside a submerged vehicle in a retention pond at 2600 County Line Road early Thursday morning as 61-year-old Paul Greenberg of Lakeland.

According to Lakeland Police, Greenberg’s grey Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound on the grassy shoulder near the property entrance when, for unknown reasons, it slowly backed into a Lakeland Electric concrete pole before moving forward, traveling down an embankment, and entering the pond.

First responders arrived to find the vehicle fully submerged. The Lakeland Police Department Dive Team recovered the vehicle and located Greenberg deceased inside.

Based on preliminary evidence, detectives say no foul play is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing. Nothing further at this time.
