KISSIMMEE, FL — An Amtrak train struck and killed a man near Michigan Avenue and Garden Street in Kissimmee Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:21 p.m. as the train was traveling northbound on the railroad tracks just west of Michigan Avenue, approaching Garden Street.
According to FHP, an unidentified adult man was walking north along the inside of the tracks and was directly in the train’s path. The conductor applied the emergency brake in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unable to stop in time.
The man was struck by the front left portion of the train and pronounced dead at the scene. The 54-year-old conductor, from Callahan, was not injured and remained at the scene.
The man’s identity has not yet been confirmed. The crash remains under investigation. Nothing further at this time.
