The Lake Wales City Commission voted 4-1 to approve the annexation and master plan for a 1,287-acre agricultural site west of the city, named Stoneridge.
The development will feature 2,900 homes, commercial spaces, and industrial areas, potentially housing 8,000 people. Proponents believe it will bring better jobs and elevate Lake Wales as a community.

Some Polk County residents warn of water scarcity, loss of wildlife habitat, increased traffic, and the city’s inadequate infrastructure to support such growth. The plan awaits a second reading to be finalized. Nothing further at this time.
