LAKELAND, FL — Polk State College President Anastasios “Stasi” Kamoutsas is marking his first 90 days leading the college with a focus on students, workforce development and community partnerships, according to a press release issued Monday by Polk State.
Kamoutsas became Polk State’s sixth president on July 6 after being selected from more than 100 applicants during a national search. His first 90 days have centered around an initiative called “Where Eagles Soar,” built on workforce innovation, student success and developing responsible citizens.
During that period, Polk State partnered with Florida Polytechnic University to create the Eagle to Phoenix Pathway, providing students a transfer route into 10 STEM degree programs.
The college was also selected as a preferred training partner for Florida’s emerging Advanced Air Mobility industry and received a $2 million Florida Job Growth Grant to launch a Commercial Driver’s License program.
Kamoutsas is also preparing for the January opening of the Polk State Haines City-Davenport Campus, which will include Central Florida’s first public higher education interdisciplinary simulation hospital.
Looking ahead, Kamoutsas said Polk State will continue expanding student services, partnerships and workforce opportunities. Nothing further.
