PLANT CITY, FL — Friday, April 17, 2026 — Plant City High School was placed on lockdown while officials investigated a weapons-related incident on campus, according to a phone message sent to parents.
School officials said the incident began after a fight between students. Administrators and a school resource deputy intervened and secured two separate backpacks. Upon searching the bags, a firearm was found in each, one loaded and one unloaded.
All students remained safe and stayed in their classrooms during the investigation by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
School officials stated the district has zero tolerance for this type of behavior and confirmed the students in possession of the firearms will not be returning to the school. Officials emphasized that the safety of students and staff remains their top priority. Nothing further at this time.
