Utility Workers Discover Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Fort Meade Pasture

Fort Meade, FL – September 9, 2025 – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of the driver.

The incident involved 23-year-old Samuel Maisonet of Sebring, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Maisonet was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call received at approximately 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The call originated from Duke Energy workers investigating a power outage near the intersection of Avon Park Cutoff Road at Singletary Road. The workers discovered the wrecked vehicle in a nearby pasture.

First responders located the 2007 Toyota Corolla off the roadway. Investigation indicates the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a ground anchor wire for a power pole, rolled, and ejected the driver. The impact caused a power outage, prompting the Duke Energy response.

Evidence suggests speed may have been a factor, based on vehicle damage, roadway markings, ground impact points, and the distance traveled after the initial impact.

The investigation remains ongoing. Nothing further at this time.
