Clearwater Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Road Rage Shooting

Clearwater, FL – On June 5, 2025, at approximately 8:11 p.m., 24-year-old Derrius Laskett was admitted to a hospital with two gunshot wounds. Laskett reported the incident occurred near the intersection of Auburn Street Northwest and Carnegie Avenue, an area under the jurisdiction of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO). PCSO detectives took over the investigation from the Clearwater Police Department.

According to detectives, Laskett and 24-year-old Jamarl Spence were involved in a road rage incident. Following the altercation, Laskett, a passenger in a vehicle, exited and exchanged words with Spence. Detectives state that Spence then drew a handgun and fired multiple shots at Laskett, striking him twice.

Laskett received medical treatment and has been released from the hospital. Spence was arrested by detectives from the Homicide & Robbery Unit and charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree.
