City of Lakeland Reports Brief Water Pressure Fluctuation, Service Restored

LAKELAND, FL – April 10, 2026 — At 9:18 a.m. on Friday, the City of Lakeland Water Utilities Department experienced a temporary fluctuation in water pressure at the T.B. Williams Water Treatment Plant. The event affected approximately 80% of commercial and residential water systems across the city and resulted in the activation of some fire alarms.

According to the City of Lakeland, normal water pressure was restored within two minutes of the fluctuation.

City officials reported that a backup system was activated during the incident to ensure uninterrupted water service to customers. The system functioned as designed, allowing utility crews to manage and correct the pressure fluctuation without disruption to overall service.

Water Utilities staff responded immediately after the issue was detected, assessed conditions at the T.B. Williams Water Treatment Plant, and implemented corrective actions. The City confirmed that normal pressure was restored throughout the system following the response.

No additional service interruptions were reported beyond the brief fluctuation period, and operations returned to normal after utility personnel completed their assessment and stabilization procedures.
