Lakeland, Florida – January 30, 2026 – The City of Lakeland continues to activate its new school-zone speed enforcement cameras as part of the School Zone Safety Program.
The city announced an update on Friday, January 30, 2026: 14 speed enforcement cameras are being installed near eight school entrances. The program targets drivers exceeding the posted school-zone speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour while the school-zone flashing lights are active.
The system remains in an warning phase until all cameras are fully activated, with a few still awaiting final implementation. During this period, violations result in warning notices mailed to the registered vehicle owner only—no citations are issued.
Each potential violation is captured by the cameras and reviewed for approval by the Lakeland Police Department before a warning is sent.
Enforcement is limited to times when flashing lights are active. Once the program transitions to full activation, $100 citations will be mailed to registered owners for qualifying violations.
The city has stated that a public update will be issued once a citation live date is determined. Officials urge drivers to slow down and remain attentive in school zones to protect students.
Camera locations include:
- Lincoln Academy – 10th Street
- Crystal Lake Elementary / Crystal Lake Middle School – N. Crystal Lake Drive and S. Crystal Lake Drive
- Southwest Middle School – Lincoln Avenue
- North Lakeland Elementary – W. Robson Street
- Lakeland High School – Hollingsworth Road
- Lakeland Highlands Middle – Lake Miriam Drive
- Sleepy Hill Elementary – Sleepy Hill Road
- Dixieland Elementary, Southwest Elementary and Southwest Middle School – Beacon Road
The program aims to reduce reckless speeding, promote safer driving habits, and enhance safety for students in school zones. Additional updates will be provided as installation and activation progress.
