Deltona, FL – On July 1, 2025, at approximately 3:00 AM, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at 1500 Flagami Terrace, Deltona, following a verbal altercation about a woman. A 29-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to an Orange City hospital, then transferred to a Sanford hospital for surgery. The suspect, Thomas A. Calderon, aged 37, fled the scene. An arrest warrant was issued for attempted murder, with authorities noting Calderon as armed and dangerous.
On July 2, 2025, Calderon turned himself in to law enforcement. On July 7, 2025, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office reported the victim died from his injuries, leading to Calderon’s charge being upgraded to second-degree murder, defined as an intentional killing without premeditation under U.S. law. The altercation involved Calderon defending his girlfriend after a dispute over the victim’s language, according to a statement from Sheriff Mike Chitwood. A search warrant at the residence yielded evidence, details of which remain sealed.
