Polk State’s Ty Owens Earns All-FCSAA Honors After Stellar Sophomore Season

Polk State College Press Release :

Polk State Basketball’s Owens recognized as All-FCSAA

Tuesday, March 11, 2025  After one of the best all-around seasons for the program in recent memory, Polk State Basketball guard Ty Owens has been recognized as one of the best junior college players in the Sunshine State.

The sophomore guard from Port St. Lucie was recognized as an All-FCSAA selection on Tuesday. Owens becomes just the fifth Polk State player to earn that distinction under Head Coach Brandon Giles, who is currently in his eighth season.

A team captain, Owens led Polk State in several statistical categories this season, including points per game (14.8), assists per game (4.5), steals per game (1.9), 3-point percentage (.415), and free-throw percentage (.881). Owens leads the FCSAA in free-throw percentage while ranking ninth in scoring and seventh in both steals and assists.

Owens joins Tekorian “TK” Smith (a two-time selection), Freddie Word, Tommie Lewis, and George Pridgett as the only All-FCSAA selections under Giles. Owens is also the first player to lead the Eagles in scoring, assists, and steals per game since Lewis during the 2020-21 season.

“Ty has been a tremendous player for our program and has grown tremendously since arriving on campus,” Giles said. “It’s rare for opposing coaches in your conference to call (NCAA) Division I programs about a player on another team, but they’ve done that for Ty. That speaks volumes. He’s great young man and comes from a great family.”

Owens is a big reason why Polk State is headed to the FCSAA Tournament for the first time since 2022. The Eagles finished the regular season with a record of 19-11. They’ll open the FCSAA Tournament on Thursday in Niceville against Daytona State College.
