BARTOW, FL — Polk County will increase solid waste disposal fees starting Oct. 1. Garbage, along with construction and demolition debris, will cost $48.30 per ton, while yard waste will increase to $38.33 per ton. All transactions will also be subject to a $10 minimum fee.
The new rates will take effect at the Polk County North Central Landfill and Transfer Station under a resolution approved by the Polk County Board of County Commissioners on May 20, 2025.
Under the resolution, disposal fees for garbage, construction and demolition debris, and yard waste will increase by an additional 5% each Oct. 1 through 2030.
Polk County said the increases are intended to address rising operational costs and infrastructure maintenance associated with providing waste management services to residents and businesses.
According to the county, revenue generated from the higher rates will help support facility maintenance and operational improvements as the Solid Waste Division continues providing disposal services throughout Polk County.
