UPDATE: Tuesday, September 22 — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed this morning that the remains recovered from Lake Juliana in Auburndale yesterday were animal remains. The remains were initially taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine whether they were human or animal. Nothing further at this time.
AUBURNDALE, FL — What the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is calling a “portion of a body” may have washed ashore at Lake Juliana in Auburndale Monday morning.
Deputies responded to the Lake Juliana boat ramp, where a forensic van and detective were seen as investigators examined the discovery. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the recovered body portion has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine whether it is human or animal.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information has not yet been released.
