WINTER HAVEN, FL — The owners of Island Jerk Caribbean food truck are facing felony charges after Winter Haven police said they used a debit card that a woman unknowingly dropped at an Eagle Lake gas station. The pair used the card to make nearly $1,500 in unauthorized purchases.
Marlon Cummings, 47, and Tamika Cummings, 44, were arrested Aug. 14 and each charged with grand theft and possessing identification of another person without consent, both third-degree felonies.
According to the Winter Haven Police Department, the victim unknowingly dropped her debit card at the RaceTrac on Highway 17 in Eagle Lake on July 10. Surveillance video showed a silver Ford pickup pulling the couple’s food truck arrive shortly afterward and use the same gas pumps. Police said the card was used to purchase $111.45 worth of fuel for the truck.
Investigators said the card was then used for multiple purchases around Winter Haven on July 10 and 11 at Walmart, Wawa, Salem Fresh Eats, Farm Fresh Market, Tractor Supply and Rainbow. Those transactions totaled $1,368.52.
The victim realized her card was missing the following day after discovering unauthorized transactions and canceled it.
Police said surveillance video obtained from multiple businesses showed Marlon and Tamika Cummings using the card. Investigators later located the food truck at a storage facility on Lucerne Park Road, where the property manager confirmed the identities of the owners after being shown surveillance images.
Detectives located the pair around 11 a.m. on Aug. 14 and took them into custody. Nothing further at this time.
