Florida Man Arrested After Allegedly Firing at Sheriff’s Drone

LEHIGH ACRES, FL — A man was arrested after deputies said he fired at a Lee County Sheriff’s Office drone that was being used during a response in Lehigh Acres.

According to LCSO, the incident occurred over the weekend near Todd Avenue South when the agency’s Drone as First Responder program was deployed to assist with a call in the area.

While monitoring the scene from the air, the drone operator observed several males carrying what appeared to be a firearm. Investigators said one of the individuals, identified as Elvin Antonio Callejas-Serrato, pointed the weapon toward the drone and appeared to fire two rounds in its direction.

Deputies who were already nearby quickly responded and made contact with the group. During the investigation, deputies recovered a BB rifle loaded with steel projectiles.

Callejas-Serrato was detained and charged with Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles Into an Aircraft.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno said the agency’s drone technology is used to enhance public safety and assist deputies in responding quickly to incidents. The investigation remains ongoing.
